Messaging Policy
Businesses use their NearbyPage to let customers sign up for their texts. Every business must follow these rules, the CTIA Messaging Principles and Best Practices, and the law, including the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. We take down the page of a business that breaks them.
1. Only text people who agreed
- Text only people who gave you their number and agreed to get texts from your business.
- Never make agreeing to texts a condition of buying anything.
- Keep a record of how and when each person agreed. NearbyPage keeps one for every sign-up on your page.
- Never buy, rent, sell or share phone numbers or lists.
2. Say who you are
Include your business name in your first message and whenever it isn't obvious who is texting.
3. Honor STOP and HELP
- When someone replies STOP (or similar words such as CANCEL, END, QUIT or UNSUBSCRIBE), stop texting them right away and send at most one confirmation.
- When someone replies HELP, answer with your business name and how to reach you.
4. Send what people signed up for
Stick to the kinds of messages your sign-up form describes, at a reasonable frequency, and at reasonable hours in the recipient's time zone.
5. Content that is not allowed
- Spam, phishing, fraud, or messages meant to mislead
- Illegal products or services, including illegal drugs
- Cannabis, CBD, kratom and similar products
- High-risk financial services: payday and short-term loans, debt relief, debt consolidation or reduction, credit repair, and cryptocurrency
- Third-party lead generation, affiliate marketing, or sharing leads with other businesses
- Gambling and sweepstakes that require payment
- Sexual, hateful, violent or profane content
- Tobacco, vaping, alcohol and firearms content without the age checks and approvals the carriers require
6. Reporting
To report a business that texts you without permission, reply STOP to its messages and email hello@nearbypage.com with the business's page address.
